We finally got to have M.A.Th. (Music & Art Thursday) Day today!  M.A.Th. Day is a special day we will have each week.  Half of the class stays with me for Art and the other half goes to Mr. L-A’s class for Music. Mr. L-A is a very talented musician and I LOVE art!  We both really enjoy M.A.Th. Day because it allows us to share the things we love with our students.

In Art, we made monsters with oil pastels on dark paper and in Music, the students explored different genres of music and talked about their favorites.

Today we talked about colors and how they can change how you feel.  Then I asked the SPIFFY students in room 19 “If kindness were a color, what color would it be?”

The students in room 19 were given an engineering challenge today. They had to design, build and test a safe perch for “Harry”. This is “Harry”…

The challenge was that each group had to build the tallest SAFEST perch for Harry so that he can safely look out at our classroom.
First, we had to design the perches.

Next, we had to build the perches using ONLY some tape and the items in a baggie.

After the challenge was over, each group got to re-name “Harry”.

Now the “Formerly-Known-as-Harry”s are perched above the white board, ready to learn spiffy stuff!

Wow! We have been super busy being very SPIFFY this week! Here are some of the things we’ve been working on: Math, writing in our journals, reading, learning to work together as a team, building, and treating each other with kindness.

 

Welcome! My name is Mrs. Legaspi and this year I will be teaching a 2nd/3rd grade “combo” class. That means there will be 2nd AND 3rd graders together in one classroom!
